ZADAXIN®: An Essential Complement to
Hepatitis B and Influenza Vaccines
Although most research today is devoted to disease treatment, it is
imperative to remember that prevention can be even more important.
This is particularly true in patient populations like the elderly,
immuno- compromised patients, or patients with renal dysfunction,
where successful treatment may be far more difficult to achieve than
in the general population. However, even when preventative measures
such as vaccine administration are taken, these populations often
have a low response rate. Only an active immune response leads to
a successful vaccination.
Now, ZADAXIN energizes the immune response, even in special patient populations. |

Hepatitis B Vaccine

Among hemodialysis patients who were nonresponders to Heptavax
B vaccination, augmenting the vaccination with ZADAXIN:

| |
Tripled
clinically significant HBsAb titers relative to placebo-treated
patients after 3 months (1,2) |

Maintained
high antibody titers after 12 months: ZADAXIN-treated patients
still showed 45% sustained, clinically significant HBsAb titers,
while placebo-treated patients response rate declined
to 0% (P = 0.002) (1,2) |

Influenza Vaccine

Administering ZADAXIN as a vaccine adjuvant provides:

| |
Excellent
results when administered to older patients (3,4) |
| |
A higher response
rate 65% vs 24% among immunocompromised patients
undergoing hemodialysis (5) |

In a US trial, (3, 8) doses of ZADAXIN
following the administration of trivalent influenza vaccine resulted
in:

A four-fold increase in specific influenza antibody levels relative
to placebo in patients over 80 years old

B/Ann Arbor, P = 0.031
A/H3N2 Leningrad, P = 0.044
A/H1N1 Taiwan, P = 0.027

Significantly lower 71%

to patients treated with vaccine
alone (P = 0.002) |

Improving Quality of Life

ZADAXIN has been tested extensively in problem patient populations including those who are
immunocompromised or on hemodialysis, and even in patients as old as 101 years, and has
maintained an exemplary safety record. In fact, of more than 3,000 patients involved in all ZADAXIN
clinical trials worldwide, less than 1% experienced ZADAXIN-related adverse events.* |
Reaching the World

Approved in more than 25 countries.
*Adverse experiences have been infrequent and mild, consisting primarily
of local discomfort at the injection site, and rare instances of erythema,
transient muscle atrophy, polyarthralgia combined with hand edema, and
rash.
